ACH or echeck transactions can we stop. The customer has got the right to contact the merchant directly and request for stop payment. Most of the times, the merchant will be happy enough to decline the transaction and you will not be charged.
- In case if the transaction is not being stopped by the merchant then you can certainly go to your bank request for the same. The banks may have a charge for stop ACH payment. This charge or fee can vary from bank to bank. The banks may also request you to put in a written request that confirms your authorization to stop the transaction.
- You can also coordinate with your bank to stop the transaction for that merchant for any other transactions that mean that merchant will not be able to put any recurring billing transactions on your account.
We strongly recommend you to contact the merchant so that you can resolve the issue easily. Most of the merchant prefers to talk to the customers and they prefer to resolve the issue before raising a dispute through the banking channels.
